‘Live big in a tiny house’

This lifestyle doesn’t suit everyone. But if you are a minimalist and caring about the environment and want to start your life without renting your home this might be the way to go.

Christmas is just around the corner.

This is our favourite time of the year. Friends and family are getting together and sharing a good time, playing games singing songs and off course eating a lot of nice food and drinks.

Christmas eve in Sweden falls on the 24th of December and everyday from the 1st of December leads up to the big day with different types of preparations. Differently from New Zealand this is the darkest time of the year and usually also the coldest which means that the nights (from about 3pm when it gets dark) will be lit up by candles everywhere. The windows are filled with lights, stars and electrical candles which makes the cities look lovely even from the outside of the house, very inviting. I love when the snow falls, it completes the look/ feeling and lights up the world around us and creating a blanket for the ground.

As much as I love celebrating Christmas in summertime I miss the cosy time when everyone is cuddling up in front of the fireplace with a hot drink called Glögg (like mulled wine) Glögg is spiced with cinnamon, cloves, ginger, cardamom, orange peel and raisins and are supposed to be served hot. To make this drink more appealing in summertime we will turn it into a Glögg - Sangria. This is this year Challenge, to combine the traditional Swedish flavours to work in a hot climate.

The perks of being Swedish around kiwis is that we can celebrate two types of Christmas two days in a row.

The yearly Waikato Home and Garden show has just ended. Yearly we celebrate the legacy of Graham Hannah, the founder of the Home Show.

We were a part of the Interior Design awards competition, competing with “WD” (Wintec Designers) against four other teams: Design boss (Wintec, Interior design students) ONG Design and Cambridge Colour and Design.

The concept for 2017 was Celebration of Colour and following is the brief we created:

Our clients, Mr and Mrs Jones have come to us after purchasing their first home located by the beach in Raglan. This couple comes from different lifestyles. Mia is from Auckland, used to big city life, late party nights and urban shopping whereas Vincent is down to earth and originally from Raglan. It was obvious for them that Raglan was the place to call home and build their life and family together.

Our mission is to bring these contrasting lifestyles together into their bedroom space. The room is 4 x 5 metres, with a 3-metre-high ceiling. The concept is Celebration of colour, they are looking for a natural style with creative use of colour.

Our take on this concept is to strip the colours back to their natural earthy core which creates a subdued environment and contrasts to their hectic everyday lifestyle in which they have chosen to leave behind. This is translated into the space by using colour blocking. Our intention is to bring in the use of soft geometrical shapes and organic materials to create balance and depth.

It is important that this space is a private oasis for this young couple.

It was a proud moment for our team when we on Friday night received GOLD.

This year judges where Andy and Nate, the Hamilton dad’s winners of The Block 2017 😊 and Resene’s colour consultant Deanna Hills.
